A marine ceramic coating is a liquid polymer that chemically bonds to your gelcoat and cures into a hard, glass-like layer. Unlike wax, which sits on top as a sacrificial film and washes away over months, a ceramic coating becomes part of the surface and holds for a year or more. For owners tired of re-waxing every few weeks, it is the longest-lasting protection we offer.
The coating's hydrophobic surface sheds water aggressively. On Lake Michigan that means less hard-water spotting, less scum clinging at the waterline, and washdowns that take a fraction of the time, dirt and spray simply have far less to grab onto.
A ceramic coating locks in whatever is underneath it, so the gelcoat has to be right before we coat. We wash, decontaminate, and fully correct oxidation and swirl first, using the same polishing process we use on its own. Coating over a flawed finish would seal those flaws in for a year, so this prep stage is the most important part of the job. After curing, the hull looks deeper and glossier than wax can achieve, beads water hard, and stays cleaner between washes. You still rinse the boat, a coating is not self-cleaning, but the effort drops sharply and the gloss holds long after a wax would have faded.
Ceramic makes the most sense for owners who keep their boats several seasons, who hate the re-waxing cycle, or who run larger hulls where waxing the whole boat is a major undertaking. If you trade boats often or keep yours covered most of the time, a quality wax may be the more economical choice. We will give you a straight recommendation either way.
A ceramic coating is only as good as its preparation and application. The surface has to be immaculate and fully decontaminated, the conditions controlled, and the product leveled and cured properly, high spots and uneven application show up as streaking that is far harder to fix than a botched wax. We treat coating day as the careful, deliberate process it is rather than a quick wipe-on.
Once cured, we walk you through how to keep the coating performing: rinse the boat regularly, avoid harsh detergents that shorten its life, and let us check it periodically so it delivers the full span of protection you paid for. Maintained sensibly, a coating earns its cost back in seasons of easy upkeep and held gloss.
