Monroe Harbor is the postcard of Chicago boating: a vast mooring field spread out directly in front of the downtown skyline, Navy Pier off one side and the museum campus off the other. It is largely a mooring harbor, with hundreds of boats on cans and star docks rather than finger slips, served by tender. That setting is iconic, and it shapes how detailing gets done here.
Boats kept on a mooring in the open downtown basin get the full force of Lake Michigan's sun and spray with no shelter, so the finish works hard all season. We coordinate access so the boat can be detailed properly whether it is on its mooring or brought alongside, bringing the full mobile service to it.
The open exposure at Monroe makes oxidation and water spotting especially common, so correction is a frequent need: staged compounding and polishing to cut the chalk and restore gloss, then wax or a marine ceramic coating to protect it. A durable coating is particularly worthwhile here, where re-waxing constantly against that exposure is a losing battle.
We round out every detail with interior vinyl cleaning and mildew removal, stainless polishing on rails and hardware, brightwork cleaning, and glass and enclosure care. A boat moored in front of the skyline deserves to look the part from every angle, and we finish it accordingly.
